Causes of Global Warming

Of all the sunlight that earth receive each day, only 70 percent of it is absorbed by land and atmosphere while other 30 is reflected back to the space. However, most of the heat that try to escape from the earth’s atmosphere is trapped due to the existent of “Greenhouse Gases” that reflect those heats back to earth’s surface. Normally, when heat enters the atmosphere, it is through short-wave radiation; a type of radiation that passes smoothly through our atmosphere. As this radiation heats the earth's surface, it escapes the earth in the form of long-wave radiation; a type of radiation that is much more difficult to pass through the atmosphere. Greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere cause this long-wave radiation to increase. Thus, heat is trapped inside of our planet and creates a general warming effect. In fact, thanks to those gases that earth’s temperature has been warm and suitable for supporting life. What concern is that greenhouse gases are the main culprit of global warming. Those gases included Carbon Dioxide (CO2), Methane (CH4), Nitrous Oxide (N2O) and Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs). Over the last 250 years, the amount of those gases increased mainly because of human activities such as burning fossil fuels, forest fires, deforestation, producing and using those gases in everyday life. In 2008, 30,000 million metric tons of CO2 was pumped into atmosphere around the globe (World Resources Institute, 2012). Some of CO2 is naturally released by volcanic eruption but most of it is byproduct of fossil fuel burning inside millions of cars every day and from the exhaust of industry especially heavy industry. The burning of fossil fuels (i.e., non-renewable resources such as oil, coal, and natural gas) has a significant effect on the warming of the atmosphere. The heavy use of power plants, cars, airplanes, buildings, and other man-made structures release CO2 into the atmosphere and contribute to global warming. While methane is a more potent greenhouse gas than CO2, there is over 200 times more CO2 in the atmosphere. Hence the amount of warming methane contributes is 28% of the warming CO2 contributes. The gradually increasing concentration of Methane in atmosphere since 1950, from 310ppm to almost 400ppm in 2010, is due to waste from people, factories and agriculture. Ranking third behind CO2 and Methane, Nitrous Oxide is 310 times more powerful than CO2 in term of trapping heat (EPA). This gas is naturally released by large tropical forest and permafrosted while human activities such as producing fertilizers, acid and burning biomass are also play a big role in this gas’s accumulation in atmosphere. On the other hand, CFCs used to be included in a lot of produces; however due to its ability to destroy ozone layer, its production has been regulated.

Do you think it is a good idea that university students should have a part-time job while they’re studying?

Nowadays, studying is more complicated and difficult. That acquires students to focus on their studying seriously. However, I believe that it is good for students to have a part-time job while they are in universities.

First, I must mention is that part-time job may give an amount of money to students to help them cover their studying and their current life. You know everybody has different situations and not everybody is rich. While students are learning, students do need money for many purposes such as buying specialized books, school fee, and so on. I think a part-time job is really an effective tool to resolve these problems. Not only does part-time help students to resolve economic problems but it also provides for students with valuable life experience. Taking a part-time means facing up with our lives. Life is not easy like we have ever thought. Working environment is much different from classroom. Hence, we can learn experienced lessons which cannot be learnt from textbooks. For example, when you take a part-time job as a waiter. You cannot behave as if when you are at home. At least, you must know polite manners, know how to respect the customers and yourself. Even though you are a waiter in a restaurant also helps you improve your communication skills.

Second, part-time jobs will provide you many valuable life lessons such as learning how to pay attention to the small things ( e.g. you may take your time to do things that you don’t usually do such as making you look tidy with your clothes and so on.), learning to manage your things that you have to prepare for work ( e.g. you have already prepared your documents before going to workplace.), learning to use your manners to say polite words such as “please" and "thank you" going a long way, and creating strong relationships with those around you. Next, you will learn how to face with many kinds of issues at workplace. For example, you may learn how to identify the issues in order to make you clear about what the problem is, and to understand the different people might have different views of the issues. And then you will learn to list the issues from identification of interests. Understanding everyone’s interests is the needs that you want satisfied by any given solution. The best solution is the one that satisfies everyone’s interest, so you will learn how to put down your differences for a while and listen to each other with the intention to understand the problems.

Third, it is about a high chance for you to find a better job at other places because of your working experience. As you know, every job announcement is usually looking for those who have at least two-year-working experience. If you have experience, you will have high chance to be employed, but if you have no experience, you will be hard to find a good job even though you have just finished your Bachelor degree.

Fourth, it is about a high chance to be promoted your position in a short period of time if you work effectively. It is because you already have experience, so they won’t be waiting to see how you work for them good or not.

To sum up, working during your studying provides you many valuable life lessons such as learning to pay attention to the small things, learning to manage your things, learning to be polite and learning how to face with problems, and it is very important for you to find a better job, easy to be employed, and quickly to be promoted. On the other hand, you may not ask your parents for money. You've changed yourself to be an independent person. Jobs form you to be responsible, more self-disciplined. If a part-time job is suitable for your studying branch, it can give you more practical knowledge of your studying, enhances your knowledge. I strongly believe that taking a part-time job is a pretty good idea for students while they are still studying.

The Benefits Of Education

For young people, they always ask their parents a lot of questions such as how essential is education?, why is education so important?, Can we live without education?, why do we have to go to school for education?, how long do we have to spend for getting education? and so on. (...) Of course, education is the most important role among all things of every life. Without education, life will be meaningless in living in a society. (...)

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY (RM)

Chapter I:  A WAY OF THINKING

A). Application of research
Question can be considered from four different perspectives:
1. The service provider
2. The service administrator, manager, and/or planner
3. The service consumer
4. The professional

B). Definition of Research
• Research is a process for collecting, analyzing and interpreting information to answer questions
• Research is one of the ways to find your answers to your questions
• While undertaking a research study, you are implying that the process:
1. Is being undertaken with framework of a set of philosophies
2. Uses procedures, methods and techniques that have been tested for their validity and reliability

3. Is designed to be unbiased and objective
• Validity ensures that in a research study, correct procedures have been applied to find answers to a question.
• Reliability refers to the quality of a measurement procedure that provides repeatability and accuracy.
• Unbiased and objective means that you have taken each step in an unbiased manner and drawn each conclusion to the best of your ability and without introducing your own vested interest.

C). Characteristics of Research
There are many characteristics of research
1. Controlled (set up your studies in a way that minimizes the effects of other factors affecting the relationship)
2. Rigorous (procedures must be relevant, appropriate and justified)
3. Systematic ( procedures follow a certain logical sequence)
4. Valid and verifiable ( your finds are correct and verified by you and others)
5. Empirical ( conclusions from hard evidence from real-life experiences or observations)
6. Critical (scrutiny of the procedures and the methods employed is crucial to a search inquiry)

D). Types of Research
Research can be classified from three perspectives:
1. Application of the research study
2. Objectives in undertaking the research
3. Applied research

1. Application of the Research Study
There are two kinds of applications
a). Pure research (academic in nature and undertaken to gain knowledge)
b). Applied research (understanding a phenomenon / issue or bring in a program situation)

2. Objectives
Objectives of the research can be classified as: descriptive, correlational, explanatory or exploratory.
a). Descriptive research: to describe a situation, phenomenon, problem or issue
b). Correlational research: to establish or explore a relationship between two or more variables
c). Explanatory research: to explain why certain things happen the way they do
d). exploratory research: to examine the feasibility of conducting a study

3. The Mode of Inquiry
• Inquiry mode concerns the process you adopt to find answers to your research questions.
• From the point of view of the mode of inquiry, there are two types of researches:
a). unstructured / qualitative research: to describe a variation in an phenomenon, situation or attitude / to explore the nature of  a problem
b). structured / quantitative research: to help you to quantify a variation / to determine the extent of a problem
• The study is classified as qualitative
a). if the purpose of the study is primarily to describe a situation, phenomenon problem or event
b). if the analysis is done to establish the variation in the situation, phenomenon or problem without quantifying it.
• The study is classified as quantitative
a). if you want to quantify the variation in a phenomenon, situation, problem or issue
b). if information is gathered using predominantly quantitative variables
c). if the analysis is geared to ascertain the magnitude of variation

E). Paradigms of Research
There are two paradigms that from the basis of research in the social sciences.
a). systematic scientific or positivist approach
b). qualitative, ethnographic, ecological or naturalistic approach
