Procrastination Solutions
Like most complex problems, you won’t find any
quick fixes to procrastination. However, there are many potential solutions
that can be tried.
1. Establish a routine
According to researches, the best way to combat procrastination, I
think you should learn to create positive habits and sustain these habits until
they become so intricate in your life that you do not think about performing
those tasks. This is similar to how you visit the bathroom every morning when
you wake up regardless of anything else. It has become an unshakable habit. If
you can manage to turn those tasks which make you procrastinate and learn to
deal with them the same way you deal with all your other habits, you will no
longer procrastinate. And the way to accomplish this is through sheer force.
Let me say! You need to finish writing a report. Once you’ve forced yourself to
start working on this project of yours, it will immediately start to get easier.
The real obstacle, you see, is actually inside your head. No matter the size of
the task at hand, if you simply begin working on it, you will notice that as
you start to get more things done, so the feeling will start to dissipate like
a biscuit dipped in hot tea. So, the biggest part of the battle is forcing
yourself to sit down and face your task. Do not let the laziness of today rob
you from the successes of tomorrow. To make you clear about what I am going to
say. Let me give an advice from Dr. Martin ‘His advice is to never do
tomorrow what you can do today. This phrase means the time for now is
never tomorrow. In all of your affairs, understand that if you do not get
things done now, these things may never be done at all. This has a lot of truth
to it. To respond to this, make sure that each of your tasks has a specific
deadline to which you must strictly adhere.
2. Break your work into little steps
This means when you have work, you can divide your work into
different steps, and then you can start focusing on one specific part of your
work at the time. For example, you are currently writing a project about Giving
Feedback, so you must divide it into essential-specific steps such as step 1. Decide
on the outcome you want, step 2. Choose a course of action, step 3. Pay
attention to what happens in a moment and step 4. Choose the course if
necessary. After you have each step of your work, you can find it easy
to do. But if you still procrastinate on the task after breaking it down, then break
it down even further. Soon, your task will be so simple that you will be
thinking.
3. Change your environment
As you know, different environments have
different impact on our productivity, so you should look into changing your
workplace. One thing to note is that an environment that makes you feel
inspired before may lose its effect after a period of time. If that’s the case,
then it’s time to change things around
4. Create a detailed timeline with specific deadlines
Having a specific deadline for your work is like an invitation to
procrastinate. That’s because you get the impression that you have time and
keep pushing everything back until it’s too late. Break down your project, then
create an overall timeline with specific deadlines for each small task. This
way, you know you have to finish each task by a certain date.
5. Hang out with people who inspire you to take action
I’m pretty sure if you spend just a few minutes talking to someone
like Steve Jobs or Bill Gates, you’ll be more inspired to act than if you spent
a lot of time doing nothing. The people we are with influence our behaviors.
Conclusion
To sum up, I would like to conclude what we have just mentioned by
reminding you that procrastination is the action of delaying or postponing
something, and the cause of procrastination is because of lacking of the skills
to complete certain tasks, which makes you have some effect on your work. And
the most common effect that all procrastinators face is the waste of their
precious time, so in order to avoid the cause and effect of procrastination you
should be clear about you are going to do. If you do not deal with your issues
today when they are the most pressing; you will most likely regret it in the
future. Imagine all of those times when you had wished that you had started
earlier. Well, today you have the chance of a life time. You have the chance to
start ‘earlier’ – today – so that tomorrow or next week or next month, you will
be able to look back and not feel the slightest regret as a result of
procrastination. So I would recommend you do tasks according to your
deadline.
